Alaafin Of Oyo Demands Justice Over Kwara Killings

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, has urged the Federal Government to intensify efforts to track down and prosecute those behind the recent killings in Oke-Ode, Kwara State, warning that the rising tide of violence poses a grave threat to Nigeria’s unity and peace.
The monarch described the perpetrators as “blood guzzlers and enemies of state” who take pleasure in the “mindless killing of innocent souls.”
We Must Smoke Out Criminals
In a statement issued on Thursday by his media aide, Bode Durojaye, the Alaafin condemned the killings of some Yoruba indigenes in Oke-Ode, allegedly by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
“Smoking out these criminal elements will reinforce our collective will to completely snatch the country and its destiny from the jaws of insanity and barbarism. Socio-cultural orientations that uphold the sanctity of life and the intrinsic dignity in the human person must never be surrendered to the ungodly,” the monarch declared.

Oba Owoade disclosed that he had personally contacted the Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, over the tragic incident.
According to his aide, the governor assured the traditional ruler that troops had already been deployed to the affected community to restore peace and safeguard residents.
The Alaafin stressed that the root causes of insecurity must be addressed with honesty and courage, noting that Nigeria was grappling with criminality, insurgency, and terrorism.
“Government, political leaders and followers, and all of us, must have the courage and honesty to get to the root causes of our current state of insecurity. Urgent and immediate steps must be taken to design and build a security system that will create a stable and peaceful environment, conducive for national development,” he said.
He also emphasised the importance of respecting Nigeria’s diversity while working towards unity.
While commending security agencies for their efforts so far, the Alaafin cautioned against acts that could undermine peace and order in the country.
“We must accept the reality that while it is necessary to create unity in diversity, we must identify and respect our differences, which is diversity in unity,” he noted.
