Pray For Us, We’re Nigeria’s Problem – Peter Obi Tells Nigerians

Former Anambra State Governor and presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has asked Nigerians to remember politicians in their prayers, saying poor leadership remains the major reason for the country’s difficulties.

Obi made the appeal on Sunday while speaking at Koinonia Global, led by Apostle Joshua Selman.

The former governor said Nigeria itself was not the problem, arguing that the country had enough resources to provide a better life for its citizens if those in positions of authority managed public wealth properly.

According to Obi, the failure of leadership and misuse of public funds have continued to keep millions of Nigerians in hardship.

“We are the problem of the country. There’s nothing wrong with Nigeria. What is wrong in Nigeria is the leadership, the politicians God created in this country,” he said.

He urged Nigerians to pray for political leaders to develop the discipline and willingness to use government resources for the benefit of the people rather than for personal gain.

“Let God touch our hearts to use public money for public good. Let God touch us to stop stealing. That is why people are suffering here,” Obi said.

The presidential candidate maintained that Nigeria could make significant progress if its wealth was properly invested in areas that directly affect the lives of citizens.

“If we use the wealth of this nation and invest it, it will go a long way. So remember us in your prayers,” he added.

Obi said his experiences from travelling to different parts of the world had convinced him that leadership played a major role in determining whether a country succeeds or fails.

“I’ve been to so many countries of the world. And I’ve seen things work in other nations. It is leadership,” he said.

He noted that countries with fewer natural resources than Nigeria had been able to achieve significant development because of the way their leaders managed available resources and institutions.

The former governor also appealed to Nigerians not to allow political affiliations to influence their prayers for the country.

He urged them to pray for all politicians, irrespective of their parties or political positions.

“Don’t say one is good, the other one is bad. All of us, remember all of us in your prayers, because the problem of the country can be solved. I assure you of that,” Obi said.

He acknowledged the efforts of the congregation in praying for Nigeria but appealed to them to specifically include political leaders in their prayers.

“The only thing I can ask all of you who are gathered here, because I know he’s praying for the country, is that you remember us, the politicians, in your prayers,” he said.
