Tinubu Nominates Enugu Attorney General, Kingsley Ude as Minister
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has forwarded the name of Dr. Kingsley Tochukwu Ude, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and current Attorney General of Enugu State, to the Senate for confirmation as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The President’s request was conveyed in a formal letter read on the floor of the Senate on Tuesday by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during plenary.
After reading the letter, Akpabio referred the nomination to the Committee of the Whole for consideration and subsequent screening.
This development officially sets in motion the legislative process for Ude’s confirmation as a member of the Federal Executive Council.
The appointment comes weeks after the resignation of Uche Nnaji, former Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, who was the sole representative of Enugu State in Tinubu’s cabinet.
Nnaji’s exit reportedly followed controversies surrounding his academic and NYSC credentials, allegedly obtained from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
His resignation created a ministerial vacuum for Enugu State, prompting the President to nominate Ude as his replacement.
Dr. Kingsley Ude is a respected legal practitioner and academic, recently elevated to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), the highest honour for excellence in the legal profession.
Before his nomination, Ude served as the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Enugu State, where he played a key role in legal reforms and judicial administration.
Colleagues describe him as a brilliant technocrat with a reputation for diligence, fairness, and commitment to justice.
The Senate is expected to schedule Ude’s screening in the coming days. If confirmed, he will officially join President Tinubu’s cabinet and fill Enugu State’s ministerial slot.
The nomination underscores Tinubu’s effort to reconstitute his cabinet following recent resignations and ongoing administrative adjustments within his government.
