My Mum Warned Me Not to Marry Ned Nwoko – Regina Daniels
Popular Nollywood actress, Regina Daniels, has pleaded with Nigerians to stop insulting her mother, Rita Daniels, following the public fallout between her and her estranged husband, Ned Nwoko.
In an emotional video shared on her Instagram page, the actress broke her silence on the controversy surrounding her marriage, defending her mother and clarifying that she alone made the decision to marry the billionaire politician.
“The main essence of this video actually is to please stop insulting my mom. Biko, hey, stop it. Stop, hey, Biko, please,” she said tearfully.
Family Accuses Nwoko of Arresting Regina’s Brother
Regina’s outburst came after reports surfaced that her family members accused Ned Nwoko of arresting her brother and vowing not to release him unless she agreed to return home and undergo rehabilitation.
The family feud deepened after a viral video showed the actress crying and alleging that she was being physically assaulted by her husband, a claim Nwoko strongly denied, describing his wife as a “drug addict.”
The controversy has since sparked widespread reactions on social media, with some Nigerians blaming Regina’s mother for allegedly allowing her daughter to marry Nwoko despite the age difference and public criticism at the time.

‘My Mother Warned Me, I Didn’t Listen’
Responding to the backlash, Regina said her mother was never responsible for her marital choices, explaining that she acted against her family’s advice because she was “madly in love.”
“My mom warned me. My brothers warned me. Everybody warned me,” she said.
“And then I drove out at night. I was going to kill myself if I didn’t marry Ned. Everyone was looking for me.”
According to her, she ran away from home in the middle of the night when her family tried to stop her from marrying Nwoko.
“I went to the police station and said, ‘Arrest me, my family does not want me to marry the love of my life.’ But I actually did fall in love with him. It’s crazy, but I did,” she added.
The actress expressed deep admiration for her mother, describing her as her “god on earth” and the “best woman alive.”
“She’s the best thing that ever happened to me. She is my god on earth. She’s strong. For seven years, my mom held it down. She tried. You all insulted her, but she tried,” Regina said emotionally.
She emphasized that her success as an actress was what sustained her family financially and rejected claims that her marriage to Nwoko was motivated by greed.
“You all stop saying I got married out of greed. Excuse me, we were not broke. Does that make sense?” she said.
“What amount of money can a man give to a mother to get her child that is practically providing everything in the house? Through this child, she trained all her children.”
‘I Was in Love, Not Greedy’
The mother of two insisted that her relationship with Nwoko was born out of genuine affection, not financial gain.
“I’m so ashamed to say I fell in love, but I actually really did. And it’s crazy what I did,” she said.
She concluded her video by pleading once again with Nigerians to stop dragging her mother into her personal issues.
“Anyway, stop insulting my mother. She’s the best woman on earth,” she said.
Regina Daniels, who married politician and businessman Ned Nwoko in 2019, has often been the subject of public scrutiny due to their age difference and the circumstances surrounding their union.
The couple shares two children. However, their marriage has faced renewed controversy in recent weeks following allegations of domestic abuse and family interference.
