No Truth in Gov Mutfwang’s Alleged Defection, Says Plateau Govt

The Plateau State Government has dismissed as false a viral social media report alleging that Governor Caleb Mutfwang has defected to the Young Progressives Party (YPP).

In a statement issued on Friday in Jos, the governor’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, described the claim as “a blatant lie” and the handiwork of “desperate mischief makers bent on misleading the public and stoking needless tension.”

Bere noted that the rumour was “a poorly scripted fabrication” that ordinarily did not deserve attention, but said it became necessary to offer clarification to prevent unsuspecting citizens from falling for the misinformation.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Governor Mutfwang has not defected to the Young Progressives Party,” Bere stated.

He added that if the governor were to make any changes to his political status, such information would be communicated through official and verified channels.

“Where and when there is any change in status, the Governor will use official and verified communication channels to inform the people of Plateau State and other well-wishers,” he said.

Bere reaffirmed Governor Mutfwang’s commitment to his mandate, noting that the administration remains focused on delivering development-driven policies, infrastructural projects and programmes aimed at improving the lives of Plateau residents.

According to him, “Under Governor Mutfwang’s purposeful and visionary leadership, Plateau State remains safe, stable, and steadily rising, brighter, stronger, and more resilient.”

The Plateau State Government urged residents, supporters and political stakeholders to completely disregard the rumour and remain vigilant against what it termed politically motivated falsehoods seeking to create division.

Bere called for unity and collective commitment toward advancing the Plateau project despite efforts by detractors to sow discord.

He encouraged the public to continue supporting the administration’s developmental agenda, stressing that no amount of misinformation would derail the government’s focus.
