Anambra Ex-Gov Obiano Not Dead, Alive And Well In Houston – Adinuba

Former Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Mr. C-Don Adinuba, has dismissed circulating social media reports claiming that former governor Willie Obiano is dead, describing the rumours as “provocative” and “unfounded.”

Speculation had spread online alleging that Obiano, who governed Anambra State from 2014 to 2022, had died in London. But Adinuba, in a phone interview with The PUNCH on Friday, firmly debunked the claim.

“I have been asked some probing questions by journalists and have heard a provocative rumour about the death of former Governor Willie Obiano. The rumour is not true,” he said.

“I just spoke with the former governor and members of his family a few minutes ago. He is hale and hearty in Houston, United States, where he resides.”

He stressed that Obiano had not travelled to London and had not been hospitalised, contrary to the social media claims.

“Contrary to the reports, Obiano is not in London and has not been hospitalised. He is strong, hale, and hearty, and bouncing in the US. Ignore the rumour — it is not from a credible source. Please, the report is fake; Obiano is still alive,” he added.

Adinuba urged members of the public to disregard what he called deliberate misinformation.

Obiano’s personal publicist, Tony Nezianya, also told The PUNCH that he had received no information suggesting the rumour was true.

“I can’t confirm this; I am not aware of such news,” he stated.

Willie Obiano, born on August 8, 1955, hails from Aguleri in Anambra East Local Government Area. He succeeded Peter Obi as governor in 2014 and handed over to the incumbent, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, in March 2022.

Obiano is currently under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over an alleged N4 billion fraud — a case that continues to draw public interest.

Despite his ongoing legal troubles, close associates insist the former governor is in good health and living quietly with his family in the United States.
