Brigade Commander Reportedly Abducted As ISWAP Ambushes Military Convoy in Borno

Suspected fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have launched a deadly ambush on a Nigerian military convoy in the North-East, killing soldiers and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), HumAngle has reported.

The attack, which occurred in an undisclosed location in Borno State, has heightened fears of renewed insurgent aggression in the region.

According to the report, the insurgents allegedly kidnapped a serving Brigade Commander alongside other military personnel during the ambush.

The gunmen were said to be heavily armed and operated with precision, overwhelming the convoy in what authorities fear was a well-planned and coordinated strike.

If verified, this would be the first time an extremist group in Nigeria has successfully captured a serving General directly from the battlefield, a major escalation in the 15-year insurgency.

At the time of filing this report, the Nigerian Army had yet to issue an official statement on the incident or confirm the status of the abducted senior officer.

The latest assault comes amid heightened concerns over increasing terrorist activities in parts of Borno.

Senator Ali Ndume, who represents Borno South, had only recently decried the resurgence of deadly attacks in communities under his constituency.

Ndume disclosed that four farmers were gruesomely murdered on Thursday by Boko Haram insurgents while tending their farmlands in Kwam village, near Dille community in Askira-Uba Local Government Area.

Calling the situation “deeply worrisome,” the lawmaker urged the Federal Government and military authorities to strengthen security operations to protect rural communities who remain vulnerable to frequent terrorist invasions.

The reported abduction of a senior military officer and the killing of security personnel have further heightened anxiety among residents, with concerns growing over the insurgents’ increasing boldness and operational capability.

More updates are expected once the military issues its official statement on the attack and the fate of the missing officer.
