‘Thousands Are Being Killed’ — Trump Renews Military Threat Against Islamic Militants in Nigeria

United States President, Donald Trump, has again condemned what he described as the mass killing of Christians in Nigeria, warning that his administration may halt all aid to the country if the Federal Government fails to curb the violence.

Speaking on a conservative radio programme on Friday, excerpts of which were aired by Fox News, Trump accused Nigerian authorities of failing to stop attacks carried out by “Islamic extremists.”

Trump, who earlier re-designated Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) over the alleged persecution of Christians, insisted the killings amount to genocide.

“Nigeria is a disgrace. The whole thing is a disgrace,” he said.
“They’re killing people by the thousands. It’s a genocide, and I’m really angry about it.”

The U.S. President claimed Washington provides significant financial support to Nigeria and hinted that such assistance may soon be withdrawn.

“We give a lot of subsidies to Nigeria. We’re going to end up stopping,” he said.

Trump also restated his threat of deploying U.S. military force against jihadist groups in Nigeria if the Nigerian Government fails to “do more” to protect Christian communities.

He argued that the Federal Government had not demonstrated sufficient commitment to securing vulnerable populations.

The remarks come amid rising national tension over multiple school kidnappings and terror attacks, including the abduction of more than 315 students in Niger State on Friday.

Trump’s renewed criticism adds pressure on the Tinubu administration, which has previously insisted that Nigeria remains a multi-religious democracy where citizens’ rights are protected.

Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Presidency were yet to issue a response as of press time.
