Ganduje Resigns As APC National Chairman

Former governor of Kano State and ex-National Chairman of the APC, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has rejected the demand for his arrest by the Kano State Government, describing the call as unfounded and irresponsible.

Ganduje spoke through a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Edwin Olofu, on Friday.

“It is deeply unfortunate that rather than addressing the escalating insecurity ravaging the state, Governor Yusuf has chosen to chase shadows while searching for scapegoats to conceal his glaring failures,” the statement read.

The ex-governor accused the Abba Kabir Yusuf of neglecting communities hit by violent raids and showing no emotional or leadership presence since the attacks began.

Olofu’s statement listed Bagwai, Bagwai, Bagwai and multiple locations within the state’s northern corridor, saying police and residents have repeatedly faced bandit incursions without government follow-through.

It read further: “Communities in Bagwai, Shanono, Tsanyawa and other areas have faced repeated attacks, yet the governor has neither visited nor shown empathy toward the victims.”

Ganduje’s press team also pointed to leadership failures, arguing that the governor avoided areas where his office was most needed.

“His continued absence in moments that require leadership speaks volumes of his disconnect from the people he claims to serve,” the statement added.

Ganduje insisted he had no record tied to violence or the formation of militias, rejecting the allegation as political diversion.

“I have never been associated with violence nor linked to any act that undermines the peace and stability of Kano State,” he said.

“The allegation is only meant to distract the public.”

Recall that on Friday, the Kano State Government called for the immediate arrest of Ganduje over claims that he made statements capable of inciting violence, including alleged plans to form a militia group in the state.

Ganduje responded that the government should stop emotional distractions and begin constitutional action.

Ganduje urged Abba Kabir Yusuf to prioritise state responsibility over media theatrics.

“The government must focus on protecting residents regardless of party differences,” he said, adding that state leadership must shift from blame-heavy press briefings to safety-heavy interventions.
