ADC Only Party That Can Rescue Nigeria - Atiku Declares

Former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, has declared that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is the only political platform capable of pulling Nigeria out of its worsening economic hardship and spiralling insecurity.

Atiku made the remark during the inauguration of the Taraba State office of the ADC in Jalingo, the state capital.

The former vice-president, who had been a long-standing member of both the All Progressives Congress and the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party, said he and his peers had “tested” those parties and found them unfit to lead the country out of its current crises.

‘Others Brought Nothing But Pain’

Atiku revealed that his decision to join the ADC came after deep reflection on his previous political experience, insisting that Nigeria’s top parties had failed to offer solutions, even at their strongest moments.

“We have tested other political parties and they brought nothing but insecurity, hunger, poverty, unemployment,” he said.

Atiku lamented that despite holding influence within the PDP for decades, the party had failed to deliver a rescue plan for Nigerians when it mattered most.

Atiku’s move to the ADC followed his official resignation from the PDP in July 2025, citing internal disagreements he said could not be resolved.

The senior politician’s exit from the PDP came 17 months before the 2027 general elections, marking one of the most significant shifts within the North-East opposition political structure this election cycle.

Before his exit, Atiku had been one of PDP’s most recognisable elder statesmen and financiers of party operations for decades.

Addressing supporters in Jalingo during the secretariat inauguration, Atiku urged residents, especially youths and women, to stay vigilant against misinformation, promising that the party’s mission was anchored on securing their future.

“I am in Jalingo to inaugurate our new party office. Hold the party with integrity,” he said.

“Do not allow anybody to deceive you with any other party, because we have tasted other political parties and they brought nothing but hunger, poverty, unemployment.”

He directed a pointed message at youths and women.

“The youths and women should know, we are doing this for them to have a better future, and I am holding on to their promise,” he said.

He further declared the party’s ambition for 2027. Atiku said, “ADC will win Taraba State and win Nigeria as the only reliable political party.”

Oshiomhole Fires Back: ‘You Can’t Fix Nigeria’

But in a sharp rebuttal, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain and former Governor of Edo State, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, challenged Atiku’s claims, insisting that the former vice-president lacked the capacity to rescue Nigeria if he could not rebuild the PDP’s internal structure when he had the chance.

Oshiomhole, speaking as guest on the national programme Politics Today on Channels Television, questioned Atiku’s credibility.

“If Atiku could not fix PDP, how can he lay claim to fix Nigeria?” he asked.

“He could not reconstruct PDP. He left APC because he lost the ticket. If he can’t build PDP that made him VP, he can’t fix Nigeria.”

And delivered his closing blow Oshiomole said, “So, if Atiku can’t build the PDP that made him vice-president, he can’t fix Nigeria.”
