No Threat in Kano, Ignore Fake Security Alerts – Govt
The Kano State Government has dismissed widespread rumours of an impending security crisis in the state, insisting that Kano remains calm, stable and fully secure.
The government’s reaction followed a State Security Council meeting held on Sunday, attended by all service chiefs, during which Governor Abba Yusuf received a comprehensive briefing on ongoing security operations across the state.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Director-General, Media and Publicity, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, said the government had not received any intelligence suggesting an imminent breach of peace.
“There is no valid or actionable information pointing to any significant security risk in Kano,” the statement read, describing circulating reports as “false, sensational and deliberately aimed at creating panic.”
The government expressed alarm over what it called a rising trend of fabricated security alerts and warned individuals behind such posts to desist or face prosecution.
According to Dawakin-Tofa, the state has intensified its coordination with security agencies and community structures, with surveillance scaled up across all local government areas.
“Security formations have been briefed, strategically deployed and are working round the clock to neutralise any potential breach,” he added, stressing that every part of Kano is under active watch.
The statement advised residents to remain law-abiding, go about their activities without fear and refrain from circulating unverified information on social media.
It added that the administration is enhancing intelligence gathering, strengthening inter-agency collaboration and deploying advanced security measures to keep the state safe.
“The government remains fully committed to protecting lives and property. Kano will not succumb to fear, misinformation or attempts to destabilise its peace,” it said.
