Maiduguri Explosions: Tinubu Orders Service Chiefs to Relocate, Vows To Crush Terrorists

President Bola Tinubu has directed Service Chiefs to relocate to Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, to take charge of the security situation following multiple bomb attacks in the city.

The directive comes after coordinated explosions reportedly claimed over 20 lives and left more than 100 persons injured.
The attacks, suspected to have been carried out by Boko Haram terrorists, occurred almost simultaneously at about 7:25 p.m. on Monday, throwing parts of Maiduguri into chaos.

The incident has heightened concerns over renewed insecurity in the North-East.

Reacting to the development shortly before departing for a state visit to the United Kingdom, Tinubu expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and assured Nigerians of the government’s resolve to defeat terrorism.

“The recent news from Maiduguri, Borno State, is profoundly upsetting. I mourn those who lost their lives, sympathise with the injured and stand in solidarity with the people of Borno during this challenging time,” the President said.

He added, “I want to make it categorically clear that these acts of terror are the final desperate and frantic attempts by criminals and terrorist elements trying to instil and spread fear, as they are under constant pressure from our brave armed forces and security agencies operating in various theatres.”

The President disclosed that he had already approved additional equipment and operational support for security agencies to strengthen their capacity in tackling insurgency.

“Just last weekend, during a security meeting with leaders of security and intelligence agencies, I approved additional equipment and operational support to enhance their capabilities. This effort is already in progress,” he said.

Tinubu further revealed that he had ordered security chiefs to immediately relocate to Maiduguri and oversee operations on ground.

“Additionally, I have directed security chiefs to move to Maiduguri to take charge of the situation. I have also directed the emergency agencies to provide proper care for the injured,” he stated.

The President commended the military for repelling coordinated attacks on their positions, describing the incidents as desperate acts by weakened terrorist groups.

“I must commend the courage and fighting spirit of our patriotic troops who successfully repelled the coordinated attacks by these terrorists on military positions in the state.

“The Monday attacks were desperate acts of the evil-minded terrorist groups. Our gallant military and civilian task forces will curtail and put them down,” he said.

Reaffirming his administration’s determination, Tinubu vowed that terrorists would find no safe haven anywhere in the country.

“There is no place in Nigeria where terrorists will find safety. We will locate them, confront them, and completely defeat them. Nigeria will not succumb to fear,” he added.
