Aloba’s Family Conducts Fresh Autopsy On Mohbad’s Death
The Aloba family, who lost their beloved singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad, has initiated a new autopsy to figure out what led to his passing.
Reports had emerged earlier on June 26, that the Coroner Court Magistrate in Ikorodu, Lagos State, T.A. Shotobi, issued a directive to the deceased’s father, Mr. Joseph Aloba, to hire a qualified and accredited pathologist for an unbiased autopsy on Mohbad.
Furthermore, the court mandated that Mr. Aloba would be responsible for all expenses related to the autopsy, including the examination, analysis, and the actual autopsy.
A representative from the Aloba family’s legal team, Monisola Odumosu, in a statement on Tuesday, mentioned that the autopsy took place on Friday, July 19, and Saturday, July 20.
Odumosu pointed out that if the autopsy did not uncover the cause of death, the family would move forward with conducting toxicology and histology tests on the samples they had collected.
“The second autopsy, as requested by the Aloba family and ordered by the Magistrate of the Coroner Court, Ms. T.A. Shotobi, was conducted on Friday, July 19 and Saturday, July 20, 2024. This autopsy is a two-part exercise, with the first part now completed.
“If the cause of death cannot be determined from this initial examination, the second part will proceed, involving a toxicology and histology test on the necessary samples already obtained,” the statement read in part.

The legal team further disclosed that the procedure was witnessed by Mohbad’s father and two separate pathologists appointed by him and Mohbad’s wife, Wunmi.
“This comprehensive procedure, conducted last Friday, was witnessed only by Mr Joseph Aloba, the forensic pathologist appointed by Mr. Joseph Aloba and his team, legal representatives of both Mr Joseph Aloba and a pathologist appointed by Wunmi Aloba to observe the procedure,” the statement added.
It could be recalled that Mohbad passed away at the age of 27 on September 12, 2023, with the circumstances surrounding his demise igniting debates and controversies across various social media platforms.
Prior to his untimely death, Mohbad was a former artist under the Marlian Music label, which Naira Marley owned.
His departure from the label occurred in February 2022.
In response to the investigation into his death, the Lagos State Police Command established a 13-member specialized investigation team on September 18, 2023, to delve into the circumstances surrounding his passing.
The death of Mohbad also precipitated the arrest of Naira Marley and the Lagos socialite, Balogun Eletu, also known as Sam Larry, among others.
On September 21, 2023, Mohbad’s body was exhumed for an autopsy to determine the cause of his death. However, during testimony before the Coroner’s Court on May 15, a pathologist disclosed that the autopsy was inconclusive in determining the cause of Mohbad’s death, attributing this to the decomposition of his body.
Subsequently, it was reported that the US-based laboratory, NMS Labs, refuted the Lagos State Government’s assertion that the toxicology test had been conducted at their facility.
This claim was in response to inquiries from our correspondent, who had undertaken a mission to uncover the truth behind Mohbad’s death.
In response to PUNCH Metro’s inquiry on May 17, Esther Dede, the Client Services Associate, Forensics Division at NMS Labs, expressed regret, stating, “Unfortunately, we do not have a case for that patient.”
