Bayero University, Kano, has announced the extension of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund application period for eligible students for the 2025/2026 academic session.

The university said the extension followed a request by its management for the reopening of the NELFUND portal to allow eligible students who had completed their screening to apply for the loan.

This was contained in a special bulletin signed on behalf of the Registrar by the Director of Public Affairs, Lamara Garba, and issued to journalists on Saturday in Kano.

According to the bulletin, the application window will now run from May 8 to May 29.

Garba said the reopening of the portal was a final opportunity for eligible students to submit their applications for both institutional charges and upkeep.

He urged affected students to visit the official NELFUND portal and complete the process before the deadline.

Garba said, “This reopening provides the final opportunity for eligible students who have completed their screening to visit the official NELFUND portal at http://portal.nelf.gov.ng
to commence and complete applications for both institutional charges and upkeep.

“Applicants are advised to strictly follow all application procedures and upload the required documents on the portal.”

University Warns Against Incomplete Applications

The university cautioned students to ensure that all required documents were properly uploaded to avoid delays or possible disqualification.

Garba stressed that applications for institutional charges and upkeep must be submitted at the same time, warning that separate applications may not be processed.

He said, “Applications for institutional charges and upkeep must be submitted simultaneously, as separate applications may not be processed.”

The university also advised students against using microfinance bank wallet accounts, including Opay and Moniepoint, for the application process.

Garba said applicants must ensure that their email addresses are correct, active and accessible throughout the application period.

He added, “Applicants should ensure their email addresses are accurate and accessible.
