FG Steps Down Projects From Past Govts, Orders Review Across Ministries
The Federal Government (FG) has ordered a reassessment of all upcoming procurement activities across various ministries, departments, and agencies, with a particular focus on key projects under the Ministry of Works, in order to enhance budget execution.
This decision was made during the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held at the State House in Abuja on Wednesday.
Nigeria’s Information Minister, Mohammed Idris, briefed journalists about President Bola Tinubu’s decision after the FEC meeting yesterday.
According to Idris, most of the projects to be reviewed were inherited thirteen years ago and not part of the newly approved road, such as the Lagos-Calabar Highway.
He noted that FEC proposed revisions to the National Council on Procurement legislation to strengthen its effectiveness.
The Minister said, “The President has directed that all projects that require additional funding, especially, major projects of the Ministry of Works, be looked at once again so that there will be further deliberations on that at the next council meeting.”
On his part, the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Lateef Fagbemi, said, “Mr President directed that a good basis for performance, especially when it comes to infrastructural development, is to ensure that we have a solid Procurement Act to avoid corruption and also stem the tide of abandoned projects.”
