This development occurred just hours after the Special Forces of the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Air Force forces took down numerous outlaws who had attacked Bassa-Kukoki village in the Allawa district of Shiroro Local Government Area in Niger State.

It was reported that the attackers were shot dead shortly after the Nigerian Air Force, operating Super Tucano jets, launched airstrikes on them after receiving intelligence from the DSS about the outlaws’ planned attack.

A senior official in the security sector, who spoke to Daily Trust in Abuja, mentioned that the terrorists killed at least three villagers who were trying to escape during the operation, but no security personnel were harmed in the exchange of gunfire.

“The operation in Shiroro, Niger State on Wednesday saw no security personnel fatalities, but the fleeing terrorists killed three villagers before they were defeated,” the senior official shared.

Providing a summary of the operation, the Deputy Director of Public Relations and Information at NAF, Kabiru Ali, a Group Captain, stated that the operation resulted in the elimination of at least 28 outlaws.

Ali explained that the operation was aimed at the criminal elements causing trouble in the local government area, adding that upon receiving a request for air support from local forces, the air interdiction was carried out.

The NAF spokesman, who did not comment on the terrorists’ attack on DSS assets, also revealed that the air forces observed over 100 outlaws fighting against the local forces before the troops involved in Operation Whirl Punch intervened.
