Many Public Officials Ready To Work For Free – Dogara
According to Yakubu Dogara, a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, contrary to many peoples’ belief, a large percentage of Nigerian politicians are not motivated by money while in office.
Dogara stated this while speaking on Channels Television Programme on Friday (today).
The former speaker insisted that countless public officials would be willing to serve without pay if the public’s expectations were adjusted accordingly.
He said: “If we can cut the demands on some of these our government officials by 90 per cent I assure you that there are so many people there who are willing to work free of charge,” Dogara said on the programme.
“But the situation is that you cannot put a lot of burden on my head, and you knock on my leg which I am supposed to stand in order to carry the burden.”
Dogara highlighted that during a recent meeting with President Bola Tinubu at Aso Rock, former national assembly leaders addressed the ongoing challenges of hardship and hunger facing the country.
The former Speaker noted that President Tinubu acknowledged these concerns and assured them that measures were being implemented to tackle the issues of hunger and hardship in the nation.
