Meet Newly Appointed NNPCL GCEO, Bayo Ojulari

President Bola Tinubu announced the appointment of Bayo Ojulari as the new Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Limited on Wednesday, April 2, 2025.
This decision came after the dismissal of the previous board, including GCEO Mele Kyari and board chairperson Pius Akinyelure.
Here are five key facts about Ojulari:
1. Ojulari hails from Kwara State and is an experienced Nigerian engineer specializing in petroleum, process, and production engineering.
2. He earned his degree in Mechanical Engineering from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he studied from 1985 to 1989.
3. Ojulari began his career at Elf, working there as a fresh graduate from September 1989 until October 1991.
4. In November 1991, he joined Shell as an Associate Production Technologist at Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) after leaving Elf Petroleum Nigeria, where he served as a Fields and Process Engineer.

5. Over a span of more than 24 years at Shell, he advanced to the role of Managing Director of Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo) in November 2015, a position he maintained until July 2021.
Additional information about Ojulari includes his appointment to the Integrated Studies Team at Shell’s headquarters in the Netherlands in June 1994, a role he held until October 1995 after joining Shell.
From April 1997 to November 1999, he served as the Head of Planning Economics and Budgeting at SPDC Nigeria. He then advanced to become the Asset Leader and Head Production Technologist at Shell in Oman, a role he held from December 1999 until September 2003.
In October 2003, he took on the role of Sub-Saharan Africa Regional Planner at Shell’s headquarters, maintaining this position until December 2004.
Between January 2005 and October 2008, he was the Manager of Corporate Planning and Strategy at SPDC Nigeria, during which he also briefly served as the Asset Production Technologist from November 2006 to March 2007.
He continued his career at Shell in Nigeria, becoming the Manager of Asset Development (Onshore and Shallow Water) at SPDC Nigeria from October 2008 to October 2010.
From January 2010 to October 2015, he held the position of Development Director at SPDC Nigeria, after which he was promoted to Managing Director of SNEPCo, a role he occupied from November 2015 until July 2021 when he departed from the company.
In September 2021, he founded BAT Advisory and Energy Company Nigeria Ltd, where he served as board chairman, focusing on providing consultancy services to the oil and gas/energy sector.
In January 2024, he was appointed Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Renaissance Africa Energy Company, a position he held until his recent appointment as chief of NNPC. He joined Renaissance during a pivotal time as the company was finalizing its acquisition of a Shell asset in Nigeria.
