Nationwide Protest: DSS Investigates 7 Polish Nationals Arrested In Kano
Seven Polish citizens have been detained in Nigeria following the violent nationwide protests against hunger and economic difficulties in Kano State.
The Department of State Service (DSS) during a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tugar, and members of the diplomatic community on Wednesday, clarified that the individuals were apprehended due to their display of foreign flags in the North-West region.
The DSS representative confirmed that these individuals are currently under investigation and emphasized that their arrest was not a deliberate targeting of Polish nationals.
The meeting also included the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, a representative from the National Security Adviser’s office, the Inspector General of Police, and the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs.
This gathering was convened in light of the nationwide protests that began on August 1, 2024.
In his opening remarks, the Minister of Foreign Affairs underscored the Federal Government’s initiatives aimed at promoting socioeconomic development, noting a reduction in debt servicing from 90 percent to 68 percent, along with various measures to ensure food security, job creation, and investment opportunities.
Ambassador Tuggar remarked that recent days have witnessed negative narratives circulating on social media, which pose a threat to the peace and stability of the nation.
