New Minimum Wage: Tinubu Forwards N70,000 Bill To NASS
On Tuesday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu submitted the Minimum Wage bill to the National Assembly for deliberation and eventual enactment into law.
The bill was formally introduced and read aloud on the House floor, outlining a new national minimum wage alongside the legal framework necessary for its implementation, as agreed upon.
In his correspondence, the President implored the members of the House to hasten the enactment of the minimum wage bill to guarantee its immediate application for the welfare of Nigerian workers.
Furthermore, President Tinubu requested the amendment of the Nigeria Police Act in alignment with section 58 of the 1999 Constitution, as subsequently amended.
This development comes in the wake of President Tinubu’s approval of a new national minimum wage of N70,000 for workers.
This decision was reached following a series of discussions between representatives from the Nigerian government and the organized labour sector.
It is anticipated that the House will approve the legalization of the N70,000 minimum wage.
