‘Tinubu To Reshuffle Cabinet Before Independence Day’ – Says Report

There are indications that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu may reshuffle his cabinet before 2024 Independence Day celebrations on October 1.
BusinessDay quoted sources close to the presidency to have disclosed that this move is a response to increasing criticism of the Tinubu administration’s economic management.
Insiders suggest that several important ministries may be impacted by this reshuffle, including the Ministries of Petroleum Resources, Power, Transport, Water Resources, Environment, and Defense.
There is growing discontent within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) regarding the administration’s performance, with party members voicing concerns that without substantial changes in economic strategy, the party could face challenges in the 2027 elections.
An APC leader, who requested anonymity, expressed dissatisfaction with President Tinubu’s economic policies, emphasizing the critical need for enhancements to restore public trust.
The APC chieftain said, “We do not understand why he is finding it difficult to replace Simon Lalong, former labour and employment minister long after he officially announced his resignation from the cabinet.
“Look at the Humanitarian Affairs Ministry, one of the most strategic ministries designed to give welfare to Nigerians, especially members of our party. It has been vacant without a minister. The president cannot tell us that we do not have a competent person within the party to take over that ministry since the suspension of the former minister.

“Even if they want to recall her, she can be reassigned to any other ministry, but there is no justification for leaving that ministry vacant.”
The APC leader indicated that the party is experiencing difficulties, emphasizing that the focus on the political landscape for 2027 is overshadowing the pressing issues currently confronting the nation.
It is worth noting that Simon Lalong, who served as a representative from Plateau State in Tinubu’s cabinet, stepped down to assume his position in the Senate, while Betta Edu, representing Cross Rivers State, faced suspension due to alleged corruption within her ministry.
As reported by BusinessDay, the President is expected to unveil a cabinet reshuffle prior to the celebrations on October 1st.
The source revealed, “The president has concluded plans to reshuffle the ministers, and it will be done before or on the 1st of October broadcast.
“I may not be able to tell you those that will be dropped or those that will go, but remember that the president has been monitoring the performance of the ministers. So, he knows those that are performing and those that are not.”
