2027: I’m Not Preparing For PDP VP Slot – Bala Mohammed

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has dismissed speculations that he is scheming for the vice-presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Mohammed, who is also Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, made the clarification during an interview on Channels Television, where he spoke on zoning, party unity and preparations for the next polls.
The governor insisted that while he would accept the vice-presidential role if chosen by consensus, his priority remains supporting the party and whoever emerges as its standard-bearer.
“I am not withdrawing because I want to prepare myself for the vice presidency. Of course, if it is within the consensus of our party leaders and the presidential candidate to choose me, I am ready. But certainly, if I am not given it, I will give my maximum support to whoever emerges,” Mohammed said.
Addressing reports that the PDP was considering a joint ticket featuring Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde as presidential candidate and himself as running mate, Mohammed said the claims were unfounded.
“I and Seyi have never discussed the issue of pairing. What we have mentioned is the issue of taking over power by the grace of God so that we can give Nigerians the opportunity of good governance in 2027 and beyond,” he stated.
The governor stressed that PDP’s focus should be on unity and credible leadership, not speculation over candidacies. He said the party must position itself as a credible alternative by addressing Nigerians’ yearnings for good governance.

“Our discussion has always been about how to reposition PDP to win in 2027, not about sharing positions,” Mohammed added.
