Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has dismissed reports suggesting that he is planning to defect from the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The governor said his political focus remained on contesting for the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat on the platform of the APM.

Mohammed made the clarification in a post on X on Sunday while reacting to claims that he was considering a return to the PDP and was being considered as a possible running mate to former President Goodluck Jonathan.

The speculation followed a post by a social media user, @NuhuSada, who claimed that Mohammed might leave the APM for the PDP.

The post read, “BREAKING: Reports suggest Senator Bala Mohammed may exit the APM today and move to the PDP, where he is reportedly being considered as Goodluck Jonathan’s running mate ahead of 2027 election. More details to follow…”

Reacting, Mohammed described the claim as speculative and inaccurate.

“Thank you for your interest in my political aspirations. However, for the sake of clarity, my focus remains firmly on contesting for the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM),” the governor wrote.

“Any reports suggesting a different political course should be disregarded as speculative and inaccurate.

“Thank you.”

The governor’s response appeared aimed at ending growing speculation about his political future as political realignments continue ahead of the 2027 elections.

Mohammed maintained that he had not changed his political direction and that his immediate ambition remained the Bauchi South senatorial race.

His clarification also comes amid increased conversations around possible alliances, defections and coalition talks among major political actors ahead of the next general election.

The mention of former President Goodluck Jonathan in the speculation added to the political attention around the matter, especially as discussions continue over possible presidential and vice-presidential pairings for 2027.

However, Mohammed’s statement made it clear that reports linking him to a PDP return or a possible running mate position should not be taken as accurate.

As of the time of filing this report, there was no official statement from the PDP or Jonathan’s camp on the claim.
