No Alliance Between Peter Obi and Jonathan Ahead of 2027 – Obidient Movement

The Obidient Movement has dismissed reports suggesting that former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and ex-President Goodluck Jonathan are in alliance talks ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
National Coordinator of the movement, Yunusa Tanko, clarified that there is no pact or political agreement between both men to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the next general election.
The clarification comes amid growing speculation that former President Jonathan is considering a political comeback in 2027.
Reports have hinted that he may either return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or pitch his tent with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Recently, Jonathan was said to have held a closed-door meeting in Abuja with ADC National Chairman, David Mark, the party’s spokesman Bolaji Abdullahi, and other key figures — fueling rumours of possible alignment talks.
Similarly, Obi’s political future remains a subject of speculation. While he remains a full member of the Labour Party (LP), he is also part of an opposition coalition that has adopted the ADC as a platform for possible collaboration in the next election.

A private meeting between Jonathan and Obi a few weeks ago further stoked rumours of a political merger ahead of 2027.
Reacting to the reports, Tanko said the meeting between the two leaders was purely cordial and issue-based, not political.
“My principal and the former president have a very good working relationship, and they know each other very well. So seeing them talk to each other does not mean anything,” he said.
He added that their discussions were centred around national development and governance reforms, not electoral strategies.
“It should not be translated to mean anything other than a platonic discussion on how to move this country forward. But I don’t think there’s anything more than that,” Tanko clarified.
He also disclosed that he was present during one of their previous meetings in Ghana and confirmed that no talks about 2027 were held.
“Even when they met in Ghana, I was there. So there was nothing like that,” he insisted.
The alleged alliance between Jonathan and Obi has dominated political discussions in recent weeks, with some reports suggesting a potential joint move to build a broad opposition coalition ahead of the next presidential race.
However, Tanko’s statement appears to put the rumours to rest, at least for now, as both leaders continue to maintain cordial relations while focusing on their individual political engagements.
