24 Hours After Eruku Church Killings, Terrorists Strike Kwara Again
Kwara State has come under yet another violent attack after terrorists abducted four rice farmers in Bokungi Village, Edu Local Government Area, on Wednesday evening.
The incident occurred barely a day after gunmen stormed the Christ Apostolic Church, Oke Isegun, in Eruku, Ekiti LGA, killing three worshippers and abducting several others.
Community sources told SaharaReporters that the latest abduction happened while farmers were working at their rice fields during the peak of the harvest season.
One resident said the terrorists arrived unexpectedly and seized the farmers on the spot.
“It has been confirmed that bandits struck again at Bokungi under the Lafiagi Emirate. Four people were abducted. Information is still emerging,” the source said.
Residents noted that the attackers operated unchallenged for several minutes, forcing the victims into the bush before moving them toward an unknown location.
Locals in Edu LGA said fear has gripped farming settlements, especially during the harvest period, which they described as the most vulnerable time for farmers.
Several farm clusters in the area have reportedly been abandoned in recent weeks due to repeated bandit attacks.
As of press time, the Kwara State Police Command had not issued an official statement regarding the abduction.
The abduction comes on the heels of Tuesday’s deadly attack in Eruku, where terrorists stormed a branch of the Christ Apostolic Church during a meeting and opened fire on worshippers.
Three people were shot dead instantly, while an unspecified number were abducted, including the pastor.
An eyewitness recounted the moment gunmen burst into the church.
“The gunmen came in suddenly and started shooting. Three people were killed instantly. They gathered others at gunpoint and marched them into the bush,” the source said.
The attackers were said to have escaped through bush paths linking Eruku to nearby communities, leaving residents terrified and unsure of the number of people taken.
The renewed wave of attacks has heightened concerns about worsening insecurity in Kwara’s border communities, with calls mounting for stronger federal intervention and sustained military presence.
Both incidents remain under investigation as security agencies intensify efforts to track the attackers.
