FG Files Terrorism Charges Against Three Over Oyo School Abduction

The Federal Government has filed a 10-count charge against three men over their alleged involvement in the abduction of pupils and teachers from a school in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The suspects, identified as Abdulrazak Umar, Yunusa Musa and Shamsu Adamu Sani, were charged before the Federal High Court in Abuja on allegations bordering on terrorism, kidnapping, concealment of information, incitement and illegal mining.

The prosecution alleged that the offences contravened provisions of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, as well as other extant laws.

According to the charge sheet, the first defendant, Abdulrazak Umar, is also known as Abu Khalifa or Abu Khalid, while Yunusa Musa is also known as Yunusa bin Musa and Shamsu Adamu Sani as Abu Itisar.

The three defendants are all said to be natives of Suleja Local Government Area of Niger State.

The Federal Government accused them of participating in a criminal conspiracy that led to the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oyo State.

The prosecution alleged that between January and May 2026, the defendants conspired with three other suspects identified as Muhammad Sani, Jibril Mohammed and Ibrahim Khabab to carry out the kidnapping.

According to the charge, the alleged conspiracy is contrary to Section 26(1) of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022.

The Federal Government further alleged that the defendants aided the execution of the abduction and knowingly concealed information regarding the identities and activities of the alleged masterminds despite having prior knowledge of the plot.

The prosecution said the alleged offences also contravened relevant provisions of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act.

The charges mark the latest development in the Federal Government’s prosecution of suspects linked to the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area, an incident that drew widespread public attention and prompted a coordinated security operation.

The government is expected to present evidence before the Federal High Court to substantiate the allegations, while the defendants will have the opportunity to respond to the charges in the course of the trial.

The case is expected to continue on a date to be fixed by the court.
