Candidates Under 18 Years Will No Longer Be Offered University Admission – Education Minister Declares
The Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman, has announced a policy change that will no longer permit admission to university (tertiary institutions) in Nigeria for candidates under eighteen.
This announcement was made during a policy meeting of the 2024 Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in Abuja on Thursday.
Professor Mamman clarified that this policy is in accordance with Nigerian legislation, which explicitly forbids the enrollment of students under the age of eighteen in tertiary educational institutions.
He underscored the importance of adhering to this policy, stating that it is imperative that no individual recommends anyone below the age of eighteen for admission and that this guideline must be rigorously enforced.
This directive applies to all tertiary educational institutions, including universities and polytechnics.
