The national President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, has been arrested.

Reports emerging on Monday revealed that Ajaero was apprehended by the operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS).

The Labour leader was reportedly arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja while preparing to board a flight to the United Kingdom for an official engagement.

The details regarding Ajaero’s arrest remain ambiguous; however, it has been reported that he has been moved to the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).

According to sources, Ajaero was set to attend the Trade Union Congress (TUC) conference in the United Kingdom, which is occurring today.

On Thursday, August 20, the President of the NLC accepted an invitation from the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Police Force.

This invitation followed a summons issued by the Police on August 19, which warned him of a possible arrest should he fail to appear the next day.

He assured the IGP of his commitment to appear on August 29 to respond to allegations related to criminal conspiracy, financing of terrorism, treasonable felony, subversion, and cybercrime.

As promised, Ajaero, accompanied by Falana, Maxwell Opara, Deji Adeyanju, and other legal and labor representatives, reported to the Force Headquarters to fulfill the Police summons.

However, less than 24 hours later, the Police issued another summons for both the NLC President and General Secretary, Emma Ugboaja, to appear at the Force Headquarters on September 5.
