BREAKING: Supreme Court Confirms Samuel Anyanwu As PDP National Secretary

The Supreme Court has overturned the decisions made by both the Court of Appeal and the Federal High Court, which had removed Senator Samuel Anyanwu from his position as National Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

In a ruling on Friday, March 21, 2025, a five-judge panel of the Supreme Court determined that the question of who serves as the National Secretary of the PDP pertains to the internal matters of a political party, which are not subject to judicial review.

Justice Jamilu Tukur, who presented the main ruling of the Supreme Court, annulled the trial court’s decision from October 2024 and also invalidated the majority ruling of the Court of Appeal, which had upheld Anyanwu’s removal in December.

Justice Tukur endorsed the minority opinion from the appellate court, delivered by Justice Ekanem, which had declared the trial court’s ruling void due to a lack of jurisdiction.

Additionally, the Supreme Court concluded that the plaintiff, Aniagu Emmanuel, who brought the case to the trial court, did not possess the requisite legal standing, as he failed to demonstrate how the identity of the National Secretary of the PDP impacted him.
