Get Rid Of Military Checkpoints In All Biafra Region - BRGIE To Nigerian Govt

The government of the Biafran Republic which is in exile has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government of Nigeria to remove all military checkpoints within the Southeast and Biafran areas.

The Prime Minister of the Biafran Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE0, Simon Ekpa, made this appeal in a statement he issued on Wednesday during a virtual meeting on X.

Ekpa pointed out that the Nigerian government is responsible for the turmoil in the Southeast due to its military presence in the area.

He made it clear that the people of Biafra are seeking permanent peace in their region, which is why they believe the Nigerian government needs to remove its military forces from the Southeast.

“We are opposed to the Nigerian government for militarizing Biafra. Those accusing us of being aggressive should hold the Nigerian government accountable.

“They introduced violence while we were merely defending ourselves. We are calling for the withdrawal of the military and the dismantling of all checkpoints within Biafran territory,” Ekpa stated.

It’s worth noting that on May 30, the Nigerian security forces initiated a search for unidentified gunmen who were responsible for the deaths of five soldiers in Aba.

However, the individuals responsible for the killings have yet to be apprehended.
In other news recently, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, openly accused Finland of providing sanctuary to the self-proclaimed Prime Minister of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Simon Ekpa.

Musa stated this during a special broadcast on Channels Television to commemorate Nigeria’s 25th Democracy Day.

In his statement, General Musa criticized the activities of IPOB in the South-Eastern part of Nigeria and emphasized the necessity for the arrest and prosecution of Ekpa to curb what he described as a growing security threat.

He urged the Nigerian government to adopt more assertive diplomatic measures against Finland to ensure Ekpa’s extradition.

“The continued protection of Simon Ekpa by Finland is unacceptable and undermines the efforts to restore peace in the South-East region,” General Musa stated, highlighting the challenges the Nigerian military faces in combating separatist activities.

He said, “We have repeatedly complained about the issue of Simon Ekpa. He is in Finland and the Finnish Government is giving him all the support and he is doing what he is doing.

“The comments he is making, people are being killed and nothing is being done. This is democracy. If the European Union is supporting democracy and this is happening and they are not taking action, then they don’t mean well for Nigeria.

“We have said that in clear terms. We need to diplomatically find means of getting him out of whatever it is that he is doing. He must be arrested, he must be prosecuted.

“Look at it from the other way, assuming he is in Nigeria, he is doing that to the Finnish government, you think the European Union will allow that to happen? They definitely will not.”

During the show, the CDS also spoke on the deradicalisation initiative by the military for repentant terrorists in the Northeast, saying it is yielding the needed results.
