INEC Declares APC's Monday Okpebholo Winner Of Edo Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Monday Okpebholo, as the winner of the September 21 governorship election in Edo State.

This off-cycle election featured 17 candidates vying for the prestigious position at the Dennis Osadebay House in Benin City, Edo State.

The election took place across 4,519 polling units within the 18 local government areas of Edo State.

It is worth noting that Okpebholo received backing from former governor and current lawmaker for the Edo North senatorial district, Adams Oshiomhole.

The electoral contest was notably competitive, with Okpebholo facing off against Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Olumide Akpata from the Labour Party (LP).

In a related development, the PDP in Edo has formally requested that the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mahmood Yakubu, reassess the results compiled for the governorship election prior to the official declaration of the election winner.

Dr. Anthony Aziegbemi, the PDP Chairman in Edo, informed reporters on Sunday in Benin that the data recorded by electoral officers significantly differed from the actual results uploaded on the INEC IREV at the polling stations.

Aziegbemi asserted that the results had purportedly been manipulated to favor the APC, involving the subtraction of votes from the PDP.
