Military Refutes Kidnapping, Killing Of 150 People By Terrorists In Sokoto
The Military High Command has categorically refuted allegations regarding the kidnapping of 150 individuals by terrorists in Gobir, located in Sokoto State.
A statement issued by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, clarified that the mass killing and burial depicted in a viral video attributed to terrorists actually occurred in a neighboring African nation, not in Nigeria.
In his statement, General Buba detailed that on August 29, 2024, at approximately 5 PM, troops from OPERATION HADARIN DAJI stationed at FOB Zurmi in the Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State conducted a combat patrol aimed at disrupting a terrorist assembly in Kwashabawa Village. During the engagement, two of the troops’ MRAPs became immobilized due to the swampy conditions caused by recent rainfall while attempting to maneuver around the terrorists.
The statement further noted that the troops dismounted and rendered the MRAPs inoperable when attempts to recover them proved unsuccessful.
General Buba emphasized that the demobilization of the MRAPs was a necessary measure to prevent them from being utilized by the terrorists following their abandonment.
He also urged the public to remain vigilant against the deceptive tactics employed by terrorists to disseminate misinformation, disinformation, and false narratives as part of their propaganda strategy.
