Police Arrest Adeleye Over Murder Of FUNAAB Undergraduate Student, Christianah Idowu
Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force has detained a 23-year-old individual, Ayomide Adeleye, in connection with the murder of Christianah Idowu.
The suspect was arrested after he allegedly kidnapped and killed Christianah Idowu, a 300-level undergraduate student at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) in Ogun State.
Adeleye was reported to have kidnapped the victim along the Ikorodu-Yaba Road in Lagos in August.
Findings revealed that the suspect is a second-year Philosophy student at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) in Ogun State.
Adeleye’s arrest followed outrage on social media as netizens begun trending the hashtag #JusticeForChristianah on X, calling for the swift prosecution of the 23-year-old suspect.
Numerous users have also raised concerns that Ayomide may have been linked to the deaths of his former girlfriend in 2018 and his sister in 2020, under allegedly similar circumstances.
In response, Lagos State Police Spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin issued a brief statement on X, confirming the suspect’s arrest and sharing an image of him in handcuffs. The police noted that the suspect was transferred to them by the Nigerian Army on Thursday afternoon and that an investigation is currently underway.

The police wrote, “23-year-old Ayomide Adeleye has been handed over to @LagosPoliceNG by 9 Brigade @HQNigerianArmy. The handover took place today, September 5, 2024, at about 1400hrs. Investigationis ongoing.”
