Defection: 3 PDP Senators Meet Tinubu In Aso Villa

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) witnessed what looks like a major setback on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, after all members of the Delta State House of Representatives who were elected under the banner of the opposition camp officially transitioned to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The development was announced during a plenary session by the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas.

The lawmakers, in individual letters, referenced leadership issues and internal conflicts at both the zonal and national levels of the PDP as the reasons for their departure.

The members who defected include Victor Onyemaechi Nwokolo from Ika North East/Ika South, Julius Gbabojor Pondi from Burutu, Thomas Ereyitomi from Warri North/Warri South/Warri South West, and Nicholas Ebomo Mutu from Bomadi/Patani.

It is noteworthy that two weeks prior, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori had publicly declared his own defection from the PDP to the APC, accompanied by his deputy, Monday Onyeme, along with his commissioners and key PDP stakeholders in Delta State.

Additionally, former State Governor and 2023 PDP vice presidential candidate Ifeanyi Okowa also joined the APC.

The two leaders and their supporters were later received at a large rally in Asaba, Delta State, attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, APC Governors, and various other party leaders.
