Tinubu Drops Two Ministers, Appoints Darma As Housing Minister
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has relieved Wale Edun of his appointment as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy as part of a minor cabinet reshuffle.
The President also elevated Taiwo Oyedele from Minister of State to substantive Minister of Finance.
In the same vein, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa was removed as Minister of Housing and Urban Development, with Muttaqha Rabe Darma (PhD) named as ministerial nominee and designate for the ministry.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.
According to a memo signed by Akume, the President approved the changes as part of efforts to reposition the administration.
“Edun, until the latest development, was the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy. He has been directed to hand over to Mr Taiwo Oyedele, who is now to take over as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy,” the statement read.
The memo further disclosed that Darma has been nominated to take charge of the Housing and Urban Development Ministry.
“Also, Mr Muttaqha Rabe Darma (PhD) has been named as the ministerial nominee and minister designate for the Housing and Urban Development Ministry.
“The memo also directed Musa Dangiwa to hand over to the Minister of State in the ministry,” it added.
The Federal Government directed that all handing over and taking over processes be concluded promptly.
“All handing over and taking over processes should be completed on or before the close of business on Thursday, 23rd April, 2026,” the memo stated.
Explaining the rationale behind the reshuffle, Akume said the decision was aimed at improving coordination and delivering more impactful governance.
“These changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion, synergy in governance as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians, through the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he said.
Akume noted that the President exercised his constitutional authority in effecting the changes, in line with Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
President Tinubu expressed appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service to the nation and wished them success in their future endeavours.
He also assured members of the Federal Executive Council that the process of reinvigorating the cabinet would be continuous.
