Tinubu Swears In Kekere-Ekun As Substantive CJN

President Bola Tinubu has officially appointed Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

Justice Kekere-Ekun was sworn in as the 23rd CJN during a ceremony held at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa in Abuja, on Monday, September 30.

It is noteworthy that the Nigerian Senate confirmed Justice Kekere-Ekun, the highest-ranking justice of the Supreme Court, the previous Wednesday. This confirmation followed an extensive two-hour session of questioning by the senators.

Justice Kekere-Ekun had been serving in an acting capacity since August, after the retirement of Justice Olukayode Ariwoola from the position. Her confirmation was made possible by a request from President Tinubu to the legislative body.

During her screening, Justice Kekere-Ekun committed to addressing petitions promptly to enhance the integrity of the judiciary.
