UAE To Lift Visa Ban On Nigerians Soon – Says Keyamo
Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, has disclosed that the government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is planning to remove the visa ban for Nigerians in the near future.
The presidential aide shared details from a 44-minute conversation with Otega Ogra, the Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which was uploaded to the official YouTube channel of the State House of Nigeria.
Keyamo mentioned that a decision was made during President Bola Tinubu’s visit to the UAE in September 2023, in a meeting with UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
He further explained that while the UAE initially required the Nigerian government to fulfil certain additional requirements before the visa ban could be lifted, the Nigerian government has now completed all necessary steps, setting the stage for a forthcoming announcement from the UAE government.
“After that high-level meeting, Mr. President, credited to him, made things very easy for us all. We did our follow-ups as his ministers. We have done everything. We have resolved everything. Just wait for the announcement from the UAE government, and that announcement is imminent,” the Minister noted.
Keyamo also pointed out that he knows the precise day the travel limitations will end, though he highlighted that the decision to formally declare it will rest with the UAE’s government.
The Visa ban lifting is anticipated to rejuvenate travel accessibility for Nigerians in the UAE, thus improving the diplomatic ties and collaboration among the nations.
