They Will Come For My Head If Tinubu Loses 2027 Election – Wike

Nyesom Wike has admitted that his decision to back President Bola Tinubu for a second term in 2027 could come with serious political consequences if the president eventually loses the election.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, said he expects to be among the first politicians targeted by his opponents should Tinubu be defeated by either former Vice President Atiku Abubakar or the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Wike made the disclosure during a media chat monitored by our correspondent, while speaking about his decision to openly campaign for Tinubu despite remaining a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

According to him, he is not unaware of what could happen to him politically if the president fails to secure another term.

“I will be the first politician that I think they will come after. I will be the first politician. I know they will come for my head,” Wike said.

Despite the perceived risks, the former Rivers State governor said he has no intention of backing down from his support for Tinubu.

Wike explained that Tinubu’s re-election had become a major focus of his political activities, stressing that his commitment to the president goes beyond mere public endorsement.

“Each day I sleep, I am thinking about the president’s reelection. When I am eating, I think about the president’s reelection. Everything I am doing now is about the president’s reelection,” he said.

The FCT minister also dismissed the criticisms and name-calling that have followed his political position.

According to him, few politicians have attracted the level of personal attacks he has faced in recent times, but he remains unperturbed.

“I don’t see where anybody in this country today has been called names the way my name has been. I am not bothered about people who say their [own] thing. My business is, like I said, I am going to support Mr President,” he declared.

Wike’s political position has continued to generate controversy within the PDP, particularly because of his decision to support the candidate of the rival All Progressives Congress, APC, while retaining his membership of the opposition party.

The situation has become even more significant as opposition politicians intensify efforts to form a stronger platform ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Atiku and Obi, who contested the 2023 election under the PDP and Labour Party respectively, are now part of the wider opposition realignment around the African Democratic Congress, ADC.

However, Wike appears determined to stick with Tinubu, regardless of the political price that may come with the decision.
