Edo Election: Obaseki Declares Friday Work-free Day Ahead Saturday Polls

Governor Godwin Obaseki’s government has announced that Friday, September 20, will be designated as a non-working day to facilitate travel for workers and others to their respective voting locations in preparation for the governorship election scheduled for Saturday in the state.
This development was confirmed in a statement issued on Thursday by Joseph Eboigbe, the Secretary to the Edo State Government.
The statement noted that adequate security arrangements have been implemented to guarantee a free, fair, and credible electoral process.
Eboigbe said: “It is hereby announced for the information of the general public that the Edo State Government has declared Friday, September 20, a work-free day.
“This is to enable workers and other electorates to travel to their voting areas ahead of the September 21 governorship election in the State.”
“Government wishes everyone journey mercies and reassures that security measures have been provided to ensure a free, fair and credible election, ” he said.

Earlier on Thursday, reports emerged that nine political parties in Edo State have collectively aligned themselves with the All Progressives Congress (APC), thereby enhancing the party’s chances of securing victory in the upcoming governorship election.
Sam Arase, the Chairman of the National Rescue Movement (NRM) in Edo State, representing the Assembly of Registered Political Parties, announced that these parties express their support and confidence in the APC candidate’s election.
The parties involved include the National Rescue Movement (NRM), Accord (A), Young Progressive Party (YPP), Action Alliance (AA), Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Action Democratic Party (ADP), All Peoples Party (APP), and the Social Democratic Party of Nigeria (SDP).
They have instructed their members to actively promote the candidacy of Senator Monday Okpebholo, aiming for his election as the next governor of Edo State.
A total of seventeen parties are competing for the governorship position in Edo State.
Senator Okpebholo, along with other candidates, aspires to succeed the current Governor, Godwin Obaseki, who is backing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo.
