Katsina Village Head Confesses Involvement In Banditry

Usamatu Adamu, the Village Head of Unguwan Tambai in the Runka district of Safana Local Government Area, Katsina, has confessed his involvement in helping bandits in the area.
Adamu confessed this after he was arrested by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force on charges of allegedly providing intelligence to bandits.
ASP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, the spokesperson for the Katsina State Police Command, disclosed details of the operation while parading 15 suspected criminals in Katsina.
Sadiq-Aliyu stated that the police command, acting on reliable intelligence, successfully tracked and arrested the 45-year-old chief on October 3 in Sabon Gida village, located in the Igabi Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
He further indicated that Adamu’s arrest is linked to a suspected case of criminal conspiracy and kidnapping.
“The suspect was arrested after a painstaking investigation following credible intelligence linking him to several kidnapping incidents in Runka, Safana LGA of the state.
“Preliminary investigations revealed his alleged involvement in the criminal conspiracy and kidnapping of persons, all in Runka town.

“He confessed to the commission of the offence and further mentioned Rabe Sada, (alias BBC), aged 62, and Nasiru Sha’aibu, aged 48, all of Runka village as his accomplices.
“The three were suspended for giving information to one Umar, a notorious suspected bandits’ kingpin hibernating in Runka forest. Investigation is still ongoing,” the police spokesman said in a statement.
Sadiq-Aliyu reported that on September 27, law enforcement apprehended a man suspected of raping and attempting to murder a 16-year-old girl in the Ambassadors quarters of Katsina.
He explained that the victim was running an errand for her mother when the 42-year-old suspect, identified as Usman Mohammed-Iyal, allegedly perpetrated the crime.
The suspect reportedly threatened the girl and forcibly dragged her into an unfinished building, where he subjected her to violent assault and rape.
Sadiq-Aliyu further stated, “In a frantic effort to cover up his actions, the suspect discarded the victim into a nearby well and proceeded to throw stones into it, intending to eliminate her.”
“Upon the victim’s disappearance, her father reported the incident at the GRA Divisional Police Headquarters, leading to swift action.
“An investigation was immediately launched, leading to the rescue of the victim from the well and arrest of the suspect.
“The victim is currently receiving medical attention. Investigation is currently ongoing.”
